Bengaluru-based EV startup Ather Energy might launch a new electric scooter in India at its community day event on January 7th. The new Ather scooter might be a watered-down and affordable version of the Ather 450 Plus and the Ather 450X, or a completely new offering altogether.

New Ather electric scooter price in India

The upcoming Ather electric scooter could use a less expensive tubular frame than the more expensive albeit more advanced aluminium lattice frame that the Ather 450X gets. A patent filed by the company that came to light in 2021 suggests a comfort-oriented maxi scooter-style design which could utilise simpler components for keeping prices in check. There’s a possibility it could also be a comfort-oriented product with a flat seat and a more spacious floorboard.

The Ather 450 Plus and Ather 450X carry a price tag of Rs 1,34,147 and Rs 1,55,657 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). Both the Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus appear on the higher end of the EV two-wheeler spectrum in terms of price. The new scooter could be introduced to be a more affordable offering in Ather’s range of electric scooters.

In the past, Ather has been spotted testing an affordable electric scooter on Indian roads. The new scooter, according to a Delhi Transport Department report, suggests the upcoming Ather scooter could come with a new 3.6kWh battery pack with an advanced cooling system. The new scooter will also benefit from revised dimensions and altered chassis geometry.

In other scenarios, the company could also roll out new paint schemes or an Ather 450X Series 1 like special edition model. There’s not much information on this front and it remains to be seen what Ather’s community day event actually holds.
